During my time as a student in Bristol I always lived in the city centre, close to the university. So when I moved back to Bristol in January 2019 for a graduate job and began renting in Filton, Gloucester Road provided me with a whole new area to explore.
On weekend mornings we’ve been working our way through various brunch spots along Gloucester Road, and I thought I’d share my favourite finds so far.
- The Crafty Egg – if you rock up much later than half past ten on a weekend morning you’re likely to struggle to find a table, and this is with good reason. It offers a wide range of breakfast options, which is ideal for someone like me who doesn’t eat a lot of eggs! The pancakes, French toast and salmon bagel are all delicious.

- At the Well – not only a charming café but a laundrette too. It’s often a little calmer than other places, and there’s lovely outdoor seating if the weather’s nice. Any of their American style pancakes are excellent – soft and light with the cutest pot of additional maple syrup.

- The Bristolian – located slightly off the main road, this café has a warm continental vibe and offers a couple of less traditional breakfast options if you feel like mixing things up.
- Bakers & Co (Added 15/02/20) – this is a new discovery for me in 2020, located further up Gloucester Road in a lovely light and airy space. They make a mean bacon sandwich on delicious sourdough bread, along with really good espressos and drip filter coffees. The pastry selection is excellent too!

While I’m in the area, I always enjoy popping into the art gallery ‘Here’ which stocks beautiful prints, cards and books. Another favourite shop on Gloucester Road is IOTA, an independent store perfect for finding unique gifts, along with Colab which is full of local designers. Shopping on Gloucester road is worthy of a whole other blog post!
No doubt there are plenty of other good places for brunch on Gloucester road I haven’t been to so let me know if there are any others I should try.
