I’m a huge fan of brunch and we are certainly spoilt for choice in Bristol. I wrote a previous blog post about my favourite brunch spots on Gloucester Road back at the start of 2020 but it’s now somewhat out-of-date, so here’s a new and improved post covering a wider area and featuring 7 lovely cafés.

Odd Shop
- Odd Shop, Whiteladies Road – a friendly spot with lots of delicious offerings on the menu including brunch muffins and chicken crumpets. They serve excellent pancakes including a rotating special, with my favourite so far being the apple crumble topping. There’s outdoor seating too, perfect for people watching on a sunny day.
- Crafty Egg, Gloucester Road & Fishponds – a long-standing favourite of mine, and now with a second branch in Fishponds. Their Gloucester Road café is perpetually busy so go early to ensure a seat. They’ve reinvented their menu a few times and it encompasses egg dishes, full English breakfasts, loaded hash brown stacks, bagels and pancakes – something for everyone!

The Crafty Egg
- Wilson’s Bread Shop, Redland –this lush bakery from the Wilson’s Restaurant team serves the most sublime bacon roll: house koji cured bacon on a soft freshly baked milk bun with a dash of homemade brown sauce. They also have a range of fresh bread and delectable pastries on offer – it’s nearly impossible to leave empty-handed!
- Garden of Easton, Easton – the interior of this cosy café is laden with lush green plants and colourful décor, creating a lovely atmosphere. They serve a selection of tasty brunch food, and I’d love to try their evening menu too.

Garden of Easton
- Mercy Mercy Mercy, Clifton – offers a range of delightful brunch and lunch dishes (my favourite being the French toast), along with pastries and drinks. The team came up with a dedicated pancake menu for Shrove Tuesday which I was sad to miss – I hope they bring it back next year!
- Foliage café, Clifton – this charming café has a lovingly curated menu, full of fresh dishes. Afterwards, pop into Heron Books a couple of doors down and have a browse in this friendly independent bookstore.
- Burra, Redland, North St & Clifton – founded by professional rugby players, Burra’s success has seen it expand from one café in Redland to 3 across the city. Their locally sourced food is delicious, with a mixture of classic and more creative dishes, and they host seasonal dining events too. Go early to guarantee a seat.

Foliage Cafe
When it comes to brunch I definitely have a sweet tooth and will reliably opt for pancakes or French toast, whereas my partner often samples a savoury option (such as the chicken crumpets at Odd Shop!). I can also recommend The Bristolian in Montpelier and Nectar House on Gloucester Road, although it’s a while since I’ve been to either. And I can’t not mention Boston Tea Party, which is always a reliable option, and while they’ve now expanded beyond the South West, their Park Street Bristol location with its lovely backyard patio was their very first café and opened in 1995!

Burra
The places I’d like to try next include The Metropolitan on Whiteladies Road, Mud Dock Café on the harbourside and Lonely Mouth on Gloucester Road (I’ve heard good things about their Japanese French toast).
Let me know if you have a favourite Bristol brunch spot!
