I’m so often writing about my favourite independent restaurants in Bristol, but I figured it was about time I recommended the many lovely independent shops that I return to time and time again. If you’re after something unique, whether for yourself or for a loved one, then these 12 Bristol shops will provide some excellent browsing.

Bristol Museum and Art Gallery Gift Shop
- Fig1, Wapping Wharf – this gift shop has a lovingly curated selection of pieces, from homewares to cards to jewellery. I’ll take one of everything please!
- Sprouts of Bristol, Kingsdown and Bedminster – this women-owned plant shop is always beautifully stocked with a wide array of houseplants plus plant-care essentials and plant-themed cards and gifts. They host workshops including wreath-making and terrarium-building, and offer a range of bespoke services. They also recently opened Sprouts HQ at Willway Yard in Bedminster, to give them extra plant preparation and packing space (appointment and collection-order only).
- Heron Books, Clifton – this charming independent bookshop upsized from its tiny first shop in Clifton Arcade to a cosy 2-storey shop on Regent Street. The staff are friendly and helpful, and regular bookclubs and author events are held.

Sprouts
- Mon Pote, Bedminster – this is the homewares shop that my sister always wants to visit when she’s in town, which is high praise. It’s beautifully styled and carries a truly lovely selection of home décor, gifts and cards.
- Lowlands, Christmas Steps Arts Quarter – primarily a lighting shop, Lowlands stocks both new and vintage design-led lighting, along with furniture and homewares. I challenge you to find another place in Bristol with so many aesthetically pleasing objects in one small space.
- iota, Gloucester Road – a lovely gift shop with heaps of colourful and quirky pieces on sale.

Mon Pote
- Reason Interiors, Gloucester Road – this shop carefully curates high quality home décor, accessories and gifts, with inspiration from the Cotswolds and French vintage styles.
- Bristol Fine Art, Park Row – this art supply shop may seem small but it’s very well stocked with a wide range of art supplies. The owner is friendly and knowledgeable, and bespoke picture framing services are also available.
- The Bristol Artisan, Redland – championing designer makers with an emphasis on sustainable practices, you’ll find a truly beautiful selection of ceramics, homewares, gifts and more in this gorgeous shop.

The Bristol Artisan
- Inca, Whiteladies Road –this lovely gift shop is tucked away in the Clifton shopping centre and has a fantastic card selection plus plenty of great gifts.
- Ustudio, Gloucester Road – a wonderful store with a focus on the simplicity and craftspersonship of Scandinavian and Japanese design. There are always so many beautiful homeware pieces in here along with elegant stationery, boardgames, jewellery and fragrances.
- Sky, Clifton –one of the most uplifting shops you can step into, this delightful gift shop is full of brightly coloured cards, prints and gifts, and offers framing services too.

Ustudio
I am also highly partial to a museum gift shop and have been known to pop into said shops without visiting an exhibition! The Arnolfini, the Royal West of England Art Academy (RWA) and the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery all have lovely gift shops full of unique and creative pieces.

RWA Gift Shop
Lastly, a sad farewell to Bristol Guild on Park Street, which closed in 2024 after 116 years of trading, and had a fantastic collection of design-led pieces across its expansive store. Its legacy is preserved at the nearby Stradling Collection, a museum housing an impressive collection of 20th and 21st century design.
I’d love to hear about some of your favourite independent shops in Bristol?
